Muraka Conservation Program and Events

Welcome to the Muraka Conservation Program, a place where our passion for the ocean becomes action, every single day. This program is at the heart of what we do, and it’s where we get to care for the reefs, learn from the ocean, and share that experience with our guests.

Meet the Coral Doctors: Marine Biologist Presentation

Immerse yourself in the wonders of the Maldives’ marine ecosystem with an exclusive presentation by our resident Marine Biologists. Gain fascinating insights into the region’s diverse ocean megafauna, remarkable fish species, and intriguing marine ecosystem. This engaging session also showcases the Muraka Project, our coral restoration and fragmentation initiative dedicated to preserving and rejuvenating the vibrant reefs surrounding our island. Venue: Sangs Bar

Kids Club Eco Explorer

All young adventurers are invited to join our EcoExplorer session at the Kids Club! A fun and educational experience led by our Marine Biologist. Through a short, engaging presentation, interactive games, and hands-on activities, children will learn about marine life and the importance of protecting the environment in a playful and age-appropriate setting. Perfect for budding ocean lovers, this session encourages curiosity, environmental awareness, and a deeper connection to the natural world surrounding them. Venue: Kids Club

Turtle Adoption Program

Adopt a Sea Turtle! Become part of our ongoing sea turtle conservation efforts through our Turtle Adoption Program. This meaningful experience allows guests to symbolically adopt one of the sea turtles that frequent our surrounding reefs. Each adoption directly supports monitoring, protection, and education initiatives dedicated to safeguarding these ancient marine navigators. Adopters receive a handcrafted crocheted turtle, a personalized certificate of adoption, and ongoing updates whenever “their” turtle is spotted by our Marine Biology team. Whether you’re passionate about marine wildlife or looking for a heartfelt keepsake with a lasting impact, this program offers a special connection to the ocean long after your stay. Venue: Muraka Conservation Center Includes: Crocheted turtle, certificate of adoption, ongoing turtle sighting updates

Coral Fragment Adoption

Adopt a Coral, Save a Reef. Play an active role in reef restoration by adopting a coral fragment from our coral nursery. Guests can choose from our common coral species, give it a name, and follow its growth journey as it develops in our protected nursery before being transplanted onto the outer reef. Throughout the coral’s growth, adopters receive periodic photo updates documenting its progress and story, showcasing just how quickly corals can thrive when given the right care. This initiative offers a hands-on, educational way to contribute to reef conservation while creating a personal legacy beneath the waves. Venue: Muraka Conservation Center Includes: Coral species selection, coral naming, photo updates, reef transplantation
